Honda dealer begins taking orders for all-new Civic Type R in Malaysia – real or scam?

Despite only making its global debut two weeks ago, a Honda sales advisor here in Malaysia has apparently already begun taking orders for the all-new 2022 Civic Type R.

Facebook user Redza Honda, purportedly an authorised sales advisor from Honda Weststar Auto in Kuala Lumpur, published a post in the ‘Civic FK8 Type R Malaysia Owner’ group today advertising that the hot hatch is now open for booking.

The sales advisor says that the Honda Civic Type R will be priced at an estimated RM350,000 to RM380,000, and will be a fully-imported model offered with an official factory warranty from Honda Malaysia, as it will be brought in via official channels.

But what makes the post a little hard to believe, is that Honda hasn’t even published the official specifications of the all-new Civic Type R just yet. Still, Redza claims that the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine makes 310 hp and 400 Nm, and will be paired to a manual six-speed transmission to drive the front wheels.

From time to time, sales advisors and dealerships will start taking orders for highly-awaited models such as these, promising their customers that they’ll be among the first to receive their cars here in Malaysia (while they benefit from active cash flow in their accounts).

The tactic can work if it’s being offered by a reputable dealership, but often times, bogus salesmen will use this opportunity to scam unsuspecting buyers, taking your hard-earned money and disappearing into thin air. The issue was so severe that Perodua even had to publish an official memo warning their customers to only place their bookings through official channels.

We can’t say for sure if this advertisement is legit or not, but if you’re willing to try your luck, you’ll be able to place your booking with a fee of RM3,000. Although, the post states that you’ll need a minimum nett salary of RM10,000 to be qualified. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.
