Mercedes-AMG continues 55-year celebration with more special edition models for A 45, CLA 45

In case you somehow haven’t got the memo yet, 2022 marks Mercedes-AMG’s 55 years of existence. As part of their celebrations, the German carmaker’s performance outfit has been busy unveiling special edition models one after another, starting with the G 63, then the A 35 and CLA 35, and now it’s finally the turn of the A 45 and CLA 45 models to get the “Edition 55” treatment – and it probably won’t be the last.

If you think we’re just pulling their legs for no reason, even Mercedes-AMG themselves can’t help but acknowledge that it’s getting a little out of hand too – the subheading of the press release reads: “yet more special models in the compact class”. Anyway, we digress.

Just like all the previous Edition 55 models, the pair of new special edition models follow along the same template with a larger emphasis on cosmetic changes, rather than actual mechanical upgrades – not that you’ll be complaining about the 45-series’ performance anyway.

These include two new exterior paint job options – Cosmos Black and Digital White, exclusive traditional AMG emblem decals, as well as a set of 19-inch cross-spoke forged alloy wheels. There’s also a special AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome, which the company says demonstrates the model’s “great attention to detail”, but it’s not like you’ll see it that often anyway.

The Edition 55 A 45 and CLA 45 also comes bundled with the AMG Aero Package and AMG Night package as standard, which really should just come with the car at this point – both packages being standard equipment on the A 45 S and CLA 45 S here in Malaysia too.

The former adds the larger front splitter, additional flics, larger rear wing, and diffuser, while the Night Package essentially replaces all chrome surfaces with gloss black.

Inside, the Edition 55 models are treated to a coat of black-and-red paint, with the AMG Performance seats and door cards upholstered in leather. ‘Edition 55’ accents are littered throughout the cabin – with those on the floor mats embroidered in red. Dark brushed aluminium trim is also standard, as are the illuminated door sill plates, and the Alcantara steering wheel with a black 12 o’clock marking.

To top it all off, the Edition 55 A 45 and CLA 45 will also come with an AMG indoor car cover as standard for you to protect your investment. According to the press release, it’s made of a “breathable outer panelling made of tear-resistant synthetic fibre fabric and antistatic inner fabric made of flannel” to help prevent scratches and dust build-up.

The Edition 55 kit will be available as an equipment package for the Mercedes-AMG A 45 and CLA 45 at a price of EUR14,280 (approx. RM65k), and EUR12,614 (approx. RM58k) for their S counterparts. You probably don’t need to rush out to buy one, though, as we’re pretty sure there will be more Edition 55 models coming soon…
