Video: 2022 Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge EV CKD, First Look!

Volvo Car Malaysia has just officially its electrification plans for the country. To kick-start the effort, they’ve now unveiled the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric here in Malaysia, and we had the chance to get up close and personal with it to give you a quick first look of the fully-electric crossover!

First of all: Yes, Volvo has just unveiled the XC40 facelift globally, and no, this is not that. It’s still based on the pre-facelift model, so appearance wise, the XC40 Recharge looks virtually identical to all the other Volvo XC40s on the road today.

That being said, there are a few unique features to differentiate the fully-electric model out from the regular petrol-powered models, notably the blanked out panel on the grille up front, as well as the Recharge badging on the C-pillars.

It’s a similar story on the interior, too, with the most visible change being the new Android Automotive operating system that runs the central infotainment display and digital instrument cluster. The system brings upon more integrations with Google services such as built-in Google Maps and Google Assistant, though it misses out on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for now.

Otherwise, the Volvo XC40 Recharge’s interior is pretty much unchanged, save for the lack of the electronic parking brake lever on the centre console.

The fully-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge is powered by the P8 twin-motor electric powertrain, providing 408 hp and 660 Nm of torque to all four wheels. The motors are juiced by a 78 kWh battery pack, promising up to 418 km of electric range in a single charge.

No pricing has been announced just yet, although it has been confirmed that the Volvo XC40 Recharge will be locally assembled at the marque’s Shah Alam manufacturing plant, and offered with a four-year unlimited mileage warranty and eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
