Video: 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4Matic, 5 Things

Less than three months after the launch of the all-new S-Class here on our shores, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has now unveiled the ultra-luxury version of the already-luxurious sedan – the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, offered in the S 580 4Matic form.

The royalty’s modern-day carriage starts from RM1.92 million here in Malaysia, although that’s before ticking any of the option boxes when you place your order. The ceiling price, of course, depends solely on you and how deep your wallet is.

On the outside, the Maybach does look fairly similar to the regular Mercedes-Benz S-Class – which shouldn’t be surprising since the Maybach is built upon the base S-Class anyway. It does, however, get a few extras to make it stand out from the “normal” car, with the most noticeable one being the extra-long wheelbase – some 290 mm longer than the standard S-Class sold here in Malaysia!

The Maybach S-Class also gets the marque’s signature front grille, extra chrome trims, a chrome fin on the bonnet, as well as the 21-inch alloys and Digital Lights as standard. However, the most impressive detail on the outside has to be its exquisite two-tone paint job, painstakingly done by hand and takes an entire week to complete.

But when you buy a Maybach, your main concern is really on its interior, particularly in the rear seats – and the all-new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class certainly does not disappoint in this regard. The First Class cabin comes as standard here in Malaysia, which includes two powered seats that can be reclined up to 43.5-degrees, and even comes with electrically-adjustable ottomans.

Other standard features of the Maybach S-Class here in Malaysia also include the Rear Entertainment Package, consisting of two 11.6-inch touchscreen displays, alongside a seven-inch Android tablet in the centre console to control almost everything you wish in the cabin. But again, you’ll be able to spec the car exactly to your wish when you order one.

Underneath the bonnet is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 489 hp and 700 Nm, and is further aided by a 48V mild-hybrid system that adds 20 hp and 200 Nm of torque when needed. Power is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox and the 4Matic all-wheel drive system that translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.8 seconds… in a Maybach.

Also standard here are the rear-axle steering system to help manoeuvre the large sedan around tighter spaces, and the Airmatic suspension with E-Active Body Control system to smoothen out bumps and uneven road surfaces.
