Honda Malaysia has just launched the new Honda City hatchback based on the City sedan launched last year. Four variants are available – S, E, V and the RS – with prices starting from RM75,670 for the base model.

This is followed by the E at RM83,080 for the E variant, and RM87,860 for the V variant – the highest spec for the petrol engine models. As for the RS, prices will only be announced in early 2022. Each City hatchback comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Here’s our first impression of the City hatchback while testing it at the Sepang Circuit!

There are two powertrains available for the new City hatchback; a 1.5-litre VTEC DOHC petrol engine with 121 hp and 145 Nm for the S, E and V variants while the RS is primarily powered by an electric motor with 109 hp and 253 Nm, while its 1.5-litre engine with 98 hp and 127 Nm serves as a generator.

On the outside, the full range of the City hatchbacks come with LED daytime running lights and taillights, while LED headlamps, fog lights and 16-inch wheels are reserved for the top two variants – the V and RS. The S and E variants are fitted with 15-inch wheels.

Inside, the full range of City hatchback comes with Ultra seats while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are only available in the top three variants. Items like an electronic parking brake, rear air-con vents, and semi-digital instrument cluster are reserved for the RS.

In terms of upholstery, the S and E variants come with fabric upholstery, leather in the V and Ultra Suede in the RS.

Also exclusive to the RS variant is the full suite of Honda SENSING features. They include adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, lane keep assist, front collision warning with collision mitigation braking (autonomous braking), lane departure warning with road departure mitigation.
