Video: Isuzu D-Max 3.0 X-Terrain full review

Pick-up trucks just get better and better with every generation. While styling for a functional truck with a load deck behind can only differ so much from one brand to another, the all-new third-generation Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain sets itself apart thanks to clean lines and an upmarket interior that’s unseen in the segment!

For the range-topping Isuzu D-Max 3.0L X-Terrain, the Valencia Orange paintwork is well paired with the dark grey highlights on the radiator grille, side mirrors, the door and tailgate handles plus the overfenders that blend cleanly onto the front bumper. Those 18-inch rims look racy too as if taken off from a Dakar rally machine!

Priced at RM141,938.40 the Isuzu D-Max 3.0L X-Terrain also gets plenty of tech under the aerodynamic and stylish exterior, such as walk-away auto door lock, infra-red (IR) reducing windscreen and glass and a clever wiper system with hidden washer jets.

A feature only in the D-Max X-Terrain, which is also a first-in-the-segment, is the remote engine start, useful to cool down the wonderful cabin on a hot sunny day.

Many of us find the interior of the all-new third-generation Isuzu D-Max quite the game-changer, with not just great looks but also materials and colour coordination resembling a higher-range SUV. Brown, soft combination leather is well paired with the two-tone dashboard, which features soft-touch plastics and even double stitching!

While the meter cluster has a rather small 4.2-inch colour display, all vital information can be found here, much like the small but high-resolution ‘Cover Screen’ of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3.

The air-conditioning switch panel has a nice metallic finish and well-weighted toggle switches also deserves mention, looking even better than many global sedans and SUVs. Flipping up the rear seats is easy, much like using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. The Flip3’s compact dimensions also slot nicely into the rear storage sleeve with a USB charging port and rear air vents.

For occupants with a larger physique, the seats in the Isuzu D-Max are probably the most comfortable in the segment. They hold the body well as well thanks to innovative padding technology as provide much better support for the upper back and shoulders with its large and wide seat back dimensions.

The all-new Isuzu D-Max also comes with the most extensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), equipping the trendy pick-up truck with Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go as well as autonomous emergency braking with Turn Assist.

Powering the Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is a 3.0-litre turbodiesel unit churning out 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic and delivering power to all four wheels via an electronically controlled transfer case with the shift-on-the-fly feature.
