Video: Proton X50 vs Honda HR-V vs BMW X1 drag race on the KLIA runway

Following the first video released last week, the second installment of our new drag race series on the KLIA runway is just a little different.

This time we have the Proton X50, the Honda HR-V, the BMW X1, and a myth to debunk as we “revisit the same race” that took place in Sepang during the X50 launch.

And just like the unprecedented idea of drag racing on an international airport runway, we figured why not organise a three crossover race that no one has done and seen before in Malaysia!

Proton X50 faster than a BMW X1? On Sepang? Here’s what actually happened!

The Proton X50 clearly has the advantage here, with the most power from 1.5-litre direct-injection 3-cylinder engine with 177 hp and 255 Nm. The BMW with a similar 1.5-litre turbocharged engine only produces 140 hp and 220 Nm.

The ‘myth’ from the X50 launch in Sepang that we were curious to debunk. Find out more here!

The HR-V may put out a little more horsepower than the X1 at 142 hp but it’s only got 172 Nm. That being said, the HR-V does have the advantage of having a naturally-aspirated engine for better throttle response. That should help it get off the line more effectively but who knows?

Find out who gets to brag about having the most powerful crossover in Malaysia!
