Is that a Honda Civic hatchback or a Kia Stinger?

Yesterday, the Internet lit up not only from the pictures of the new Civic, now on sale in the USA starting from USD$21,700 (approx. RM90k), but also by the leaked images of the Honda Civic hatchback.

The Civic hatchback is expected to be unveiled next Thursday (24th of June) but from what we’ve seen so far, we can quite confidently bet on it being a handsome fella; as handsome as the model it replaces.

Unlike the new Civic sedan, which has moved away from the C-shaped taillights to an L-shaped one, the Civic hatchbacks (both old and new) still bears the C-shaped graphics on the taillights. Somewhat.

While the differences are clear between the rear section of the sedan and the hatchback, the latter actually looks like the Kia Stinger. Well, maybe a facelift version of it.

Even the arch above the number plate section looks nearly identical; if only our editing skills were better.

Unlike the new Civic sedan, the new hatchback appears to have chrome surrounds for the exhaust tips although it could be different depending on variants. We shall see.

For now, what we can gather from the pictures at least, is that the rear passenger section also looks more or less the same in terms of space.

However, they’ve redesigned the door handles for better ergonomics and better access to the cupholders – that’s always a plus. The door handles look classier too!

Reports have claimed that the Civic hatchback will get a 6-speed manual gearbox to go with the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, just like the one in the Civic sedan.

The turbocharged 4-cylinder has been tuned for an extra 6 hp and 20 Nm, now at 180 hp and 240 Nm.
