Facts & Figures: BMW 5 Series facelift in Malaysia revealed, two choices from RM343k

Just days after posting teaser information and images, BMW Malaysia has officially released the specifications and estimated pricing of the new BMW 5 Series facelift. The executive sedan will only be available with the 30-series powertrain designation, either just petrol propulsion or plug-in hybrid.

Both variants of the BMW 5 Series facelift, only in M Sport line, will be locally-assembled here in Malaysia, with an estimated price of RM343,000 and RM396,000 respectively for the 530e PHEV and 530i, both on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of sales and service tax.

The entry-level BMW 520i will not be available for now.

EXTERIOR

Complete with the M Aerodynamics package, the new models are now fitted with larger kidney grilles (wider, taller but positioned lower) and slimmer headlight clusters with a new twin-L-shaped DRLs.

At the back, the lighting units get new 3D housing, featuring a new C-shaped light signature that integrates both the taillights and brake lights into a single lighting fixture.

As standard, both the 530e and 530i get the following exterior features:

  • Full M Aerodynamics package
  • 19″ M light-alloy wheels Y-spoke style 845 M Bicolour with staggered sizing runflat tyres
  • Adaptive suspension
  • Blue painted M Sport brake calipers
  • Powered boot with hands-free operation
  • Dual trapezoidal exhaust outlets

The 530e gets Adaptive LED Matrix headlamps and gloss black window surround (Shadowline in BMW lingo), while the more expensive 530i gets blue-accented BMW Laserlight technology, aluminium satinated surround and a tilt-and-slide moonroof.

PERFORMANCE

As mentioned earlier, the new 5 Series facelift currently will only be offered in the 30-series powertrain designation of the PHEV and the regular petrol-only driving force. The is the same powertrain strategy (one PHEV and one conventional engine) seen in the recently launched MINI Cooper Countryman facelift.
