Hyundai Palisade confirmed for Malaysia, launch this year

Following a string of new car launches by Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) here in Malaysia last year, the company announced today that it will be continuing the momentum in 2021 with the launch of the Palisade SUV.

First unveiled in 2018, the Palisade is Hyundai’s flagship seven-seater SUV model. Measuring over 200 mm longer and 80 mm wider than the Santa Fe, the Palisade is also the Korean carmaker’s largest vehicle in its stable.

Hyundai even calls the Palisade the “ultimate family vehicle”, boasting its class-leading interior room for second- and third-row passengers and cargo space (510 litres), but we’ll be the judge of that when it reaches Malaysia!

Underneath the bonnet of the seven-seater SUV is a naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine, good for an “estimated” 291 hp and 355 Nm of torque – plenty to move the massive SUV around. HSDM did not provide any further information, but the Palisade is offered in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations in other markets, the latter featuring the HTRAC four-wheel drive system.

In terms of features, HSDM only mentioned two: a full-colour head-up display, as well as an “industry-first” roof vent diffuser system for the air conditioning system that can provide focused, partially-diffused, or fully-diffused stream of air to rear passengers. More information will have to wait until when we’re closer to the launch.

Globally, the Hyundai Palisade gets a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster and an eight-inch Display Audio infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity – the latter upgradeable to 10.25-inch in certain markets. Other interior features include an electronic gear selector, quilted leather seats, and a 630-watt 12-speakers surround sound system.

The Hyundai SafetySense advanced driver assistance system is also standard on the global Palisade, with features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning and Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go.

It remains to be seen if any or all of these features will make their way into the Malaysia-market Hyundai Palisade. Either way, it’ll be an exciting year ahead for Hyundai in Malaysia, and we can’t wait to bring you the latest coverage as we get them – so keep your eyes peeled!
