Proton X70 selected as part of APEC 2020 official vehicle fleet

Proton X70 has been selected as one of the official cars for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2020 meetings, MyAPEC2020. The best-selling C-segment SUV will be used to ferry delegates during the year-long forum.

MYAPEC2020 will see officials from 21 APEC economies visit Malaysia as committees and working groups to deliberate various issues towards regional economic integration.

Discussions will focus on liberalisation of trade and investment, as well as topics such as digitalisation, human resource development efforts, and women empowerment.

Proton CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong, said “Proton is proud to support Malaysia in hosting the APEC 2020. With its intelligent features, comfortable ride, refined interior and five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, we believe the Proton X70 is perfect for showcasing how cooperation between nations via forums such as APEC can help uplift each other, and thus raise the capabilities of entire industries and supporting ecosystems.

“During the year-long programme, PROTON will also maintain the fleet through its industry-leading network of 120 3S/4S outlets that will be in operation by the end of 2019,” added Dr. Li.

The X70 is national carmaker Proton’s first SUV. Based on the Boyue from stakeholder Geely, Proton has implemented several bespoke touches such as the Ethereal Bow grille and Infinite Weave pattern to localise the car for our market.

Under the hood is a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 184 hp and 285 Nm of torque. The powerplant is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission for a century sprint time of 10.5 seconds (on the 2WD models).
