Elise, Exige, Evora, Espirit, Elan, Europa, Eleven and now the Evija – the name Lotus chose for its forthcoming fully-electric hypercar. It’s a bit of a tongue twister this as the correct pronunciation is ‘ev-eye-a’, which is supposed to mean the ‘first in existence’, according to Lotus.
The Evija will the first electric hypercar from a British carmaker and also the first model to be launched after Geely assumed control of Lotus. In fact, it is the first all-new model from Lotus since 2008, so this has been a long time coming.
The model codename of Type 130 also alludes to the plan of producing only 130 units of the Evija which is rumoured to be powered by a 1000 hp all-wheel drive (presumably two motors) electric drivetrain co-engineered with Williams, all housed in a carbon-fibre body with a range of over 400 km. Those attending the Lotus stand at the ongoing Goodwood Festival will get further hints of how the Evija looks in the shape of a ‘light show’.
