Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan launching soon, pricier than the hatch?

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) will be expanding its compact car range very soon with the scheduled launch of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan.

MBM is not being discreet about it, posting a teaser video titled “A-Class Limousine” – yes, Mercedes calls their sedans, limousine. Expect the A-Class Sedan to be offered in the same flavours as the Hatchback, i.e. A 200 and A 250 petrol.

The A 200 is powered by a Renault-sourced 1.33-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 163 hp and 250 Nm while the A 250 packs 224 hp and 350 Nm from the M260 2.0-litre engine. Both engines are paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.

It is also likely that MBM will offer two trim lines for the A-Class Sedan namely the unassuming Progressive Line and the sporty AMG Line. But what is almost certain is that both variants will get the Widescreen cockpit with Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, multifunctional steering wheel, powered front seats with memory function, 64-colour ambient lighting, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as well as a rear-view camera like the hatchback.

Globally, the A-Class Sedan is priced around 10% more than the Hatchback spec-for-spec so we can assume that the new model will follow a similar positioning here in Malaysia. To recap, the A 200 hatch is priced at RM227k while the A 250 carries a price tag of RM263k. You can do the math…

Our question to you dear readers, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan or wait for the CLA 4-door Coupe?
