Valentine’s Day may have passed but real love is perpetual – just like the one between man and machine, and his son.

In realising the lifelong dream of a visually-impaired man, Mercedes-Benz allowed the petrolhead to let it rip in their Beast from Green Hell – the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

Bart Hickey has been blind from birth but his love for the greasy bits never stopped him from being a mechanic.

It was also his dream to get behind the wheel, which in most circumstances would be impossible due to the obvious.

With a generous sprinkle of empathy from the three-pointed star, both father and son, Brendan Hickey took to Alvord Lake where the Mercedes-AMG GT R was driven up to 200 km/h – not only fulfilling a near impossible dream but a lifelong deprivation from the sensation of speed we all have certainly taken for granted.
