Look how sexy is the 2019 BMW i8 Formula E Safety Car

BMW i has been supplying Formula E’s Safety Car since day 1 of the sport and the BMW i8 Coupe will hit the race tracks with a new livery.

Penned by Head of Design BMW Motorsport, Michael Scully, the 2019 livery underlines the relationship of the i8 Safety Car and the BMW iFE.18 race cars with its iconic blue and white elements of the BMW logo. The purple highlights the natural colours of the element that powers the race cars – raw electricity.

Formula E vs Formula 1

The i8 Coupe features some bespoke BMW M components to cope with the demands of motor racing, these include a rear wing and rear hatch made of carbon fibre, a front splitter, sports seats from the BMW M4 GTS, four-point harness, a roof-mounted signal light system, BMW M carbon ceramic brakes and a sports chassis.

The standard BMW i8 – which you can purchase one brand new from BMW Malaysia – is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine supplemented with an electric motor to put a combined output of 374 hp onto all-four-wheels. Thanks to a larger lithium-ion battery pack, pure electric driving is now up to 55 km from 35 km previously.
