Special Edition Range Rover gets new straight-six Ingenium engine

The Special Edition HST model will pack 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque from an all-new 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged Ingenium engine, replacing the previous V6 engine.

0 to 100 km/h will take around six seconds, thanks to an electric supercharger that essentially eliminates turbo lag to deliver immediate throttle response, onward to a top speed of 225 km/h.

These performance-boosting technologies are complemented by a new Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) powertrain that’s capable of a frugal fuel consumption of just 9.3L/100km.

The clever system is based around an all-new Start-Stop system that switches off when stationary and pairs the engine with an electric motor.

This allows the system to harvest energy through regenerative braking and store it in a 48V battery for later use, such as when pulling away from a standing start.

“In-line six-cylinder engines are inherently better balanced than V6 designs and our all-new Ingenium unit builds on that promise to optimise efficiency in all operating conditions,” said Jaguar Land Rover, Executive Director of Product Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover.

While the exterior prominently features carbon fibre trims on the bonnet, front grille, side vents and tail gate, notable features on the inside include 16-way Dynamic front seats, suede detailing on the steering wheel and gear lever.

There are five exterior colour choices for the Range Rover ranging from Santorini Black, Fuji White, Indus Silver, Firenze Red and Carpathian Grey. The latest Range Rover Sport HST is priced from £81,250 (approx RM426k) in the UK.
