Subaru is testing a WRX STI with a large GT Wing, S209?

Seems like the long-serving Subaru WRX STI, based on the fourth-generation WRX chassis, is getting another Special Edition series before the Japanese carmaker officially bids it goodbye. In a 30-second-long teaser, Subaru teased a more track-focused WRX STI that is set for debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Clad in heavy camouflage, the soon to be launched range topper gets a more aggressive body kit, rides lower than a standard WRX STI and a massive GT rear wing which leads us to believe that this could be the S209.

No mention of the powertrain specification but Subaru South Africa has managed to squeeze 353 hp and 464 Nm of torque from the EJ257 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine in their Diamond Edition. Expect the new car to feature beefier brakes, improved aero and a six-speed manual transmission.
