Audi R8 LMS GT3 race car updated with better aero, cooling & durability

Audi has just unveiled its refreshed Audi R8 LMS GT3 race car at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The updated GT3 race car is ready for customers to take on the 2019 racing season.

During the development of the updated R8 LMS GT3, Audi Sport concentrated on areas of aerodynamics, cooling and durability of the transmission to allow customers to stay more time on the track than in the pit.

Upfront there is a restyle bumper with a new splitter for better aerodynamic stability and consistency. Brake cooling has been improved thanks to improved airflow to the brake systems and more efficient evacuation of hot air from the disc brakes. This results in a more consistent braking performance as well as tire pressure.

Audi Sport has introduced an improved three-plate racing clutch that has 50 per cent longer rebuild interval, revised gear teeth and reinforced bearings to prolong the longevity of the six-speed sequential transmission. No changes to the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 that pumps out 585 hp and over 550 Nm of torque.

Customers who intend to race the 2019 Audi R8 LMS GT3 in various racing series that it qualifies in will have to fork out €398k (RM1.9 million). However, customers who already possess the second-generation R8 LMS GT3 race car can retrofit the evolution kit for €28,000 (RM134k).
