Apparently it all started from a bottle of Scotch when two friends were talking about merging two of their greatest passions – cars and watches – into one.
Fast forward a few years and a distribution network of 60 countries later, the journey of REC watches has just begun – with a mission to deliver stunning watches of the highest quality based on salvaged legendary cars coupled with a story to behold.
With the introduction of the new REC 901 RS Limited Edition Series priced at RM8,159.00, the story began when REC stumbled upon a particular Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 with an interesting backstory.
The car had been part of multiple Monte Carlo Rally events, with German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil and famous German Racing driver Clemens Schickentanz, among the greats behind the wheel.
Inspired by the backstory, REC went on to build the REC 901 RS series watch based on that particular Porsche 911 Carrera RS where the watch’s dial is cut directly from a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS.
The stainless steel bracelet on the REC 901 RS Limited Edition follows the lines of the 901 case shape; which again is inspired by the seductive curves of the classic Porsche 911. The yellow theme on the REC 901 RS Limited Edition also pays homage to its organ donor – the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS.
Along with the REC 901 Series, there are also other models made from salvaged Mustang and Mini Cooper parts. Not only are they each visually-unique, they are also born with an authentic story of the car it was made from.
“With every watch that comes, we do our best to ensure that they are made from parts of cars that have a great story. We understand that watch designs are important, but it also needs to be coupled with a great story”, said Chief Sales Officer of REC Watches, Mr. Thomas Dusinius Kronevald.
He added, “This gives our customers the opportunity to envision reincarnation slapped right on their wrists. Imagine checking for the time but then you’re instantly reminded by the great past the cars have had.”
These exquisite timepieces are available at all Red Army Watches stores located in One Utama Shopping Centre, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and Gurney Plaza as well as mo.men.tum in Sunway Velocity.
