This Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is as mean as it is beautiful

As is so often the case with new Aston Martins, the new DBS Superleggera is a thing of top notch beauty and will fittingly replace the old Vanquish S.

Beneath the sculpted carbon fibre body panels rests a 5.2-litre twin-turbo quadcam V12 that’s been tuned to produce 725 hp and 900 Nm of torque. Within just 3.4 seconds, it’ll be doing 100 km/h from standstill and by the time a Golf GTI does the same run, the Aston would’ve hit 160 km/h in the same time. Top has been marked at 340 km/h.

The immense power is funneled exclusively to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with a mechanical limited-slip differential and torque vectoring.

Keeping the DBS firmly on the tarmac, aside from the F1-inspired double-diffuser, are adaptive dampers fitted as standard. They stand behind a set of carbon ceramic brakes and the 21-inch lightweight forged wheels with Pirelli tyres developed specifically for DBS Superleggera.

With the front splitter, airflow is channeled underneath the front of the car to deliver true downforce and assist cooling by feeding air to the front brakes.

Behind the front wheels, the so-called ‘open stirrup’ and ‘curlicue’ – inspired by the Aston Martin Vulcan and Vantage GTE race car – allows air to escape and flow cleanly along the car’s flanks. At the rear, the Double Diffuser and Aeroblade ll helps generate the highest ever downforce achieved by a series production Aston Martin.

Not only is it more aerodynamic than other Astons, it’s also 72kg lighter than the DB11, with a dry kerb weight of 1693kg. Recalibrated valves in its quad exhaust system better distinguishes each driving mode, with pops and bangs on the overrun – a feature of Sport and Sport Plus modes.

Priced from £225,000 (approx. RM1.2 million) in the UK, with deliveries scheduled to begin in Q3 of 2018.
