Gallery: Volkswagen Golf GTI MK7.5 at the Singapore Motor Show

We were at the 2018 Singapore Motor Show for the regional launch of the Subaru EyeSight system but we can’t help but to pop by the Volkswagen booth to check out the Volkswagen Golf GTI facelift (MK7.5) in the metal.

Earlier, Volkswagen introduced the updated Golf MK7.5 which brought about some styling enhancements, new tech and new engine choices. The GTI, in particular, gets a new headlamp design with restyled LED Daytime running light graphics, honeycomb grille and aggressive front bumper design with aerodynamic elements on the fog lamp housing. Over at the rear, the refreshed GTI gets new taillamp graphics, more pronounced bumper and in typical GTI fashion, dual exhaust outlets.

The cabin architecture remains true to the new-generation Volkswagen family, but with added gizmos and higher-quality materials. The model on display comes with a 12.3-inch Active Info Display, 9.2-inch “Discover Pro” infotainment with gesture control, revised steering wheel design with more straightforward controls, powered sunroof and leather upholstery with red top stitching.

Under the hood of the GTI is an updated 2.0-litre TSI engine packing 227 hp, 9 more horses than before and 350 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the front-wheels via a seven-speed DSG that is more efficient than the current six-speeder.

The display unit here is equipped with the Performance Pack option as denoted by the red brake callipers and larger front brake discs. Output is bumped to 241 hp and 370 Nm of twisting force, good for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 248 km/h.

The Volkswagen Golf MK7.5 range is long overdue in Malaysia and the pre-facelift GTI has long sold out. However, we can trust that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) will reintroduce the GTI and R in due course.
