As promised during the launch of the locally assembled W213 E-Class, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has finally launched the Mercedes-Benz E 350 e plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The new PHEV will replace the E 300 AMG Line as the new range topping model in the E-Class line up, bar the AMG models.

Two distinct variants are available at launch – Exclusive Line and AMG Line. MBM has promised a price tag of under RM400k mark and they have delivered with the Exclusive Line priced at RM392,888 and AMG Line at RM395,888. A touch more expensive than the locally assembled G30 BMW 530i M Sport but then again, that is no PHEV.

Spec sheets are identical for the two variants save for the exterior body kit and interior finish. The locally assembled E 350 e comes equipped with MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, night package and blue brake calipers. The Exclusive Line wears a more elegant body kit with the signature three-pointed star hood ornament while the AMG Line gets the sportier AMG exterior package.

Inside, both variants are kitted to the brim with Nappa leather upholstery, 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, widescreen cockpit, wireless charging tray, panoramic sunroof, keyless-GO, 360-degree surround view camera, powered tailgate and many other convenience features. The AMG Line adds a metal weave trim and AMG sports steering wheel.

Motivation comes from a hybrid system that marries a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor to give a combined output of 286 hp and 550 Nm of torque; the same power output as the C 350 e but on the E-Class it gets 50 Nm lesser torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed G-TRONIC gearbox. Century sprint is done and dusted in 6.2 seconds while top speed is capped at 250 km/h. The electrified E-Class will sip just 2.1 litres of fuel for every 100 km traveled.

As all vehicles sold through MBM, the Mercedes-Benz E 350 e is covered with a 4-Year unlimited mileage warranty. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services also offers attractive financing packages with monthly repayments starting from RM3,928.
