If there’s one Japanese manufacturer that makes desirable special editions modes, it would be the Subaru and their WRX. For two decades, the super sedan that can easily pass off as an ordinary salaryman’s car has already had a few collectable editions such as the RB22 and STI Spec C. Now, there’s the Subaru WRX S4 tS.
The Subaru WRX S4 tS steals some components from the current creme of the crop WRX, the S207. This STI-prepped car receives the same Bilstein DampMatic II front suspension as the S207.
Power comes from the WRX-sourced 2.0-liter flat four direct-injection turbocharged mill that liberates 296 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The performance is bumped up by 28 hp, courtesy of the modified air intakes and exhaust system. Sadly, there’s no stick shift for this variant, thus the Lineartronic CVT is its only option. The improved oil cooler on the gearbox does somehow improve performance.
The exterior receives STI-designed BBS 19-inch forged aluminium wheels, red pinstripes on the front grille and rear bumper and a large front splitter. A luminescent speedometer greets the driver, and both the driver and front passenger get Recaro bucket seats.
Fans can also opt for the “NBR Challenge Package” WRX that adds 19-inch BBS wheels, a huge carbon-fibre rear wing and special badging. The car was created to commemorate Subaru’s success in the SP3T class in Nurburgring 24 Hours.
The Subaru WRX S4 tS begins at 4,968,000 yen (approximately RM199k) while the one with NBR Challenge Package costs 5,292,000 yen (RM212k). Looking at the rate these special edition WRXs reach Malaysia through grey importers, expect to see a few units of the S4 tS go on sale here in the near future.
