Bentley Bentayga gets all-new 4.0L tri-charged V8 diesel, makes 429 hp and 900 Nm!

Bentley has always been associated with prestige, refinement, luxury and of course, power. The English carmaker has made a drastic move in diversifying their model line-up with their luxury SUV, the Bentayga. It seems that Bentley are challenging themselves yet again with their first diesel powered Bentley – the Bentayga Diesel.

Diesel engines are getting more technologically advanced, slowly moving away from the assumptions that they lack refinement and produces lorry-like noises. With Bentley behind the drawing board, one can only expect a diesel engine like no other.2016 Bentley Bentayga Diesel

Resting under the bonnet of the luxurious SUV is a 4.0-litre triple-charged V8 diesel that produces 429 hp and 900 Nm of torque developed in-house by Bentley. This next generation V8 diesel is mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

This allows the Bentayga to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 second. That’s only less than a second slower than the W12 petrol’s 4.1 seconds! The oil-burner Bentley is capable of a top speed of 270 km/h. These figures crown the oil-burning Bentayga as the world’s fastest road-going diesel SUV ever.2016 Bentley Bentayga Diesel

The diesel engine consists of a pair of variable-geometry, sequential twin-scroll turbocharges, supported with an additional electric supercharger. Bentley’s supercharger adopts an innovative 48V system that allows the supercharger to spool up within 30 microseconds, effectively eliminating turbo lag. The full 900 Nm of torque from the triple-charged V8 diesel is accessible from as low as 1,000 rpm.

Official fuel consumption figures are pending approval at the moment but it is said that the Bentayga is able to travel over 1,000km on a single tank of diesel. It also boasts the lowest CO2 output of any Bentley at 210 grams per km.

Elsewhere, the Bentayga wears the same shell as the petrol powered twin, with a full range of personalisation options available for customers to choose from. Deliveries of the diesel Bentley will commence in Europe by early 2017, with Russia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan to follow suit.2016 Bentley Bentayga Diesel

Considering that Bentley Malaysia does not officially offer the petrol powered Bentayga just yet, it may take some time before the diesel variant makes it way to our shores. Meanwhile, check out what we think of the petrol Bentayga W12 that we sampled in Singapore.
