Not long after its mysterious teaser surfaced on the internet, Mercedes-Benz and Maybach have unveiled quite possibly their craziest concept to date – the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept Coupe. Currently displayed at the Pebble Beach car show, this six meter sheet of metal is a preview of what’s to come from Stuttgart’s mega luxury arm.
A mix between AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept and Mercedes-AMG GT, the front end of this car bears the three-pointed star. The slim gullwing doors are not the only items that add flamboyance to this coupe, but also the wheel arches are slapped with a humongous set of 24-inch wheels! The best part is, it comes with transparent panels to add even more absurdity. The concept coupe is strictly electrically powered. Its four electric motors produce a total output of 738 hp, allowing a century sprint of less than 4.0 seconds. It can cover up to 320km of tarmac with an 80 kWh battery pack, whereas a five-minute quick charge boosts travel distance by an additional 100km. The battery can be charged either by plug or wirelessly through an inductive charging system.
Despite being just a concept, the cabin of this 6-metre limo is way ahead of its time. There’s an Iron-Man kind of heads-up display which stretches across the entire windshield, and these projections will purportedly replace traditional buttons, knobs and dials. The display also functions as a massive screen that relays all kinds of information back to the driver and passengers. The four minimalistic seats come with integrated sensors, designed to analyse the occupants’ condition and even their outfits to customise the lighting and massage setup.
As exciting as it sounds, the 2+2 coupe remains just a concept. But those whose appetites have been stirred at the very sight of this car will probably want it bad enough to force Mercedes-Maybach to put this in production. We don’t think the world has seen anything like this before, not with the level of tech, ambition and drama the 6 Concept Coupe exudes.
