2016 Proton Persona teased online, launching in two weeks!

We all know that 2016 will either be a make or break year for Proton. Right after the launch of the Proton Perdana, the next model to take the limelight would be the Proton Persona. The good news is, we are some two weeks away from the launch, as teased by the picture above on Proton’s Facebook page.

The second-generation Persona is essentially the Proton Iriz with an extended boot. Proton’s new strategy means the new Persona is now downgraded from a C-segment car to a B-segment car. Meanwhile, the teaser confirms one thing – the Persona’s front aesthetics will be slightly different compared to its hatchback equivalent. The front headlights also wear a different design, while the circular fog lights marks a departure from the Iriz’s flat lights. Noticed the new emblem? That’s Proton’s new logo, accompanied by their new “It’s in the Drive” motto.

The Persona will be sharing the same engine as the Iriz, meaning it’ll receive the all familiar 107 hp  1.6-litre Campro VVT engine paired to either a Getrag-sourced five-speed manual or CVT with seven virtual ratios. Just like the video above depicts, the Persona hasn’t lost its appetite for having fun while retaining a decent list of safety features, thanks to a variety of electronic aids such as ABS, EBD and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
