Remember earlier in the year we told you that Jaguar will be making the fastest F-Type of all time? Well, it’s here, but it’s not just the fastest F-Type; it’s the fastest cat in the entire product range, and Michelle “Letty” Rodriguez got behind the wheel to prove just that.
The Jaguar F-Type you see here bears the SVR moniker, which means it’s bred and honed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division. It’s powered by the same supercharged 5.0-litre V8 of the F-Type R, but here it makes 567 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque! That’s about 25 hp and 20 Nm more than the R’s output. Together with an eight-speed gearbox, the F-Type SVR sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds before maxing out at a top speed of 320km/h.
In proving to the world that the F-Type SVR can indeed break the 320km/h barrier, Jaguar rang Rodriguez (affectionately known to Fast and Furious fans as Letty) and got her to take the new cat on its maiden high-speed test drive. The rest, as they say, is history.
The drive took place on a closed highway in the Nevada desert, home of the world’s fastest road race, the Silver State Classic Challenge. Together with a professional driver sat next to her, Rodriguez clocked a top speed of 201 mph (323km/h) – a personal record for the actress.
After the drive, Rodriguez said, “Driving this car was insane! I’ve now broken my personal speed record in the beautiful Jaguar F-TYPE SVR. Reaching 201mph felt amazing, the car drove really smoothly, all my corrections were minimal, I was super focused, and it really reacted in all the right ways. I don’t think I’d ever go this fast without a professional driver seated next to me, but oh man, it was an incredible feeling.”
“I’ve always wondered what it was like to travel faster than my top speed of 140mph (225km/h) and, outside of the Autobahn, it’s impossible for me to do it safely anywhere else and safety is most important to me. It was refreshing to be able to take myself beyond my limitations, going that fast is a big responsibility but the experience in this car was more graceful than anything I’ve felt before,” added Rodriguez.
