Last week, Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia (MMM) introduced the refreshed ASX, including a new colour called Sporty Blue. We were keen to see the Japanese crossover’s striking new shade in the flesh, and with a strike of luck we found one fresh off the production line at the Glenmarie showroom.
The main unit sitting in the showroom is the range topping 4WD variant, this time enhanced with seven airbags, new touchscreen head unit, reverse camera and Mitsubishi’s Virtual Acoustic Positioning System for better audio reproduction. Both 2WD and 4WD variants will sit on a new set of 17-inch wheels, however the base model ASX – the 2WD GL – will make do with 16-inches. 
Standard across the range are leather seats, LED daytime running lights and a new shark fin antenna. Headlights are still halogen, whereas features like paddle shifters, keyless entry and push-start ignition are all reserved for the more expensive duo. That said, the 2WD GL variant can be easily identified via its all-black grille as opposed to the chrome finish on the 2WD and 4WD variants.
Under the hood nestles a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre MIVEC engine that makes 148 hp at 6,000 rpm and 197 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Only one gearbox is available, that is the INVECS-III Continuously Variable Transmission.
Pricing for the ASX starts from RM104,791.87 for the 2WD GL; RM112,571.39 for the 2WD and RM125,040.67 for the 4WD variant. Prices stated here are inclusive of GST but excludes insurance. Bundled together with the crossover is a 5-year factory warranty, and it can be had in four colours including the new Sporty Blue shade you see here.
