If the Renault Megane RS265 Cup is err, not your cup of tea because it’s still not hardcore enough for your liking, then check this out. You’re looking at the car that lapped the Nurburgring in less than eight minutes, and it’s Renault’s wildest Megane so far. This is the limited edition two-seater Megane RS275 Trophy-R.
What’s so special about this car then? Well, it’s built based on the Megane RS275 Trophy that’s not on sale in Malaysia; the Trophy-R gets a trick suspension setup and all the luxury fittings thrown out, in the chase of achieving a lighter kerb weight that is so essential to clock that 7 minutes 54.36 seconds Nurburgring lap time.

EXTERIOR
As the most extreme Megane on sale, the Trophy-R isn’t shy to shout about its serious track-attacking credentials. You can have the Trophy-R in any colour you want as long as it’s two-tone Pearlescent White with Etoile Black roof and some slashes of red.
Track junkies will be able to spot the bright red 19-inch Speedline Turini wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and the carbon-tipped titanium Akrapovic exhaust system. They’re not only for show, they’re actually part of the weight reduction program. Together, they shed almost 10kg out of the entire vehicle’s weight.
INTERIOR
You can scare only one passenger next to you because the rear bench have been removed altogether. What you get in the back is a strut bar, a luggage net, and two pair of harnesses that go through the pair of full bucket seats at the front. The deletion of the rear seats save 20kg, while the leather and Alcantara Recaro Pole Position bucket seats are lighter too.
PERFORMANCE
The 1,998 cc four-cylinder turbo now delivers 275 hp, which is a slight bump from the 265 hp in the 265 Cup, but 360 Nm of maximum torque remains the same for both models. The turbocharged four-banger is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, launching the Trophy-R from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and yet it’s claimed to sip just 7.5 litres per 100 km.
The Trophy-R gets amped up even further with the fully-adjustable Ohlins Road & Track dampers. Paired with Allevard composite springs and you’ll get one customisable track machine that suits your own preferences.
All the Malaysian-spec Trophy-Rs get the Nurburgring Pack thrown in as standard. It features bigger 350 mm brake discs, lighter lithium-ion battery, racing harnesses by Sabelt for the Recaros, as well as four spare wheel covers.
WHAT ELSE?
Produced only 250 units worldwide, 10 units are allocated for the Malaysian market. If you haven’t placed an order yet, we’re sorry to break it to you because all have been snapped up. But then again there’s always the Megane RS265 available for about RM65k less.
