McLaren P1 GTR: Track-only beast pumps out a mind blowing 986hp [+Video]

This car is another proverbial case of “it’s only a matter of time”, because everyone loves to see just how far (or how much) cars like the P1 and LaFerrari can be pushed, right? Well, meet the McLaren P1 GTR, the very car to rival the preposterously powerful (and named) Ferrari FXX K.McLaren P1 GTR (2)

QUICK FACTS

Name McLaren P1 GTR
Engine 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8; M838TQ engine paired to a single electric motor
Transmission 7-speed dual clutch transmission
Max Power 986 hp
Max Torque Unspecified, over 1,000 Nm
Price Estimated USD 3.3 million (close to RM12 million)

Due to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the P1 GTR, like the Ferrari XX Programme, will only be available to existing 375 P1 owners. There’s no word on the number of GTRs McLaren will produce, but expect no more than 20 since it’s not road-legal in any part of the world anyway.McLaren P1 GTR (6)

The GTR uses the same M838TQ engine as its road-legal P1 sibling, that’s the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 paired to a sole electric motor pushed to make 986 horsepower (900 hp on the standard P1). According to the engineers at McLaren, this is the furthest they could push the P1.

So what’s different? The GTR sports an evidently lowered suspension, larger rear wing and front splitter, wider front track and dual exhaust pipes in the centre. Weight may well have been shaved off here as well, so the P1 will definitely be biting dust at the drag strip if pitted against the GTR. The P1 manages 2.8 seconds in the 0 to 100 km/h sprint, just so you know.McLaren P1 GTR (4)

Oh, did we mention that the GTR costs close to RM12 million, can only be purchased by existing P1 owners and that the purchase grants you an entry into a P1 GTR racing series? You get a pit crew and bespoke driver’s training with McLaren to go with it, too. Did someone just say FXX K?
