To those who are interested in the new compact B-segment SUV from Ford, we have a good news for you. The soon-to-be-launched Ford EcoSport is now available at Ford showrooms throughout the country for preview and you can even test drive it.
Prices are estimated to be between RM95,888 and RM104,888 for the two trims available, Trend and Titanium. Both are powered by the same engine, but only differ in the equipments fitted to the car.
Slightly bigger than the Fiesta, the EcoSport measures 1,675 mm tall, 1,765 mm wide, 4,273 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,519 mm. Although the rugged exterior with black plastic cladding on the lower part of the body and a spare tire mounted outside the rear side-hinged door makes it look like a 4×4, the EcoSport is actually front-wheel driven. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/60 R16 tyres.
The dashboard should be familiar to Fiesta owners, as it shares most of the architecture from the funky hatchback. A total of seven airbags are offered in the Titanium spec, which will also include goodies such as push start button, automatic climate control, automatic lights, automatic wipers, leather upholstery, and even a powered sunroof.
The EcoSport will be offered in one engine, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder that produces 108 hp at 6,300 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. There’s only a 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox with no manual transmission option.
Other standard equipments include Traction Control, ESP, ABS with EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, and Hill Launch Assist. First 500 customers who book the EcoSport during this pre-launch period will also receive a separate GPS device worth RM799. There are no official launch date mentioned, but heard through the grapevine it’s probably before end of August.
