Volvo XC40 officially launched in Malaysia, T5 AWD R-Design priced at RM256k

After releasing a series of teaser images on their social media channels, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) finally unveils their latest addition to their SUV family, the Volvo XC40. Not only it’s the first small SUV for Volvo, the XC40 is also the first vehicle to be based off their new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

Only a single variant is currently available, which is the XC40 T5 R-Design AWD, priced at RM255,888. Being the top-of-the-line variant, the R-Design is packed with loads of standard equipment.

The exterior features the trademark Volvo’s LED “Thor hammer” daytime running lights, black roof and 19-inch wheels, and inside there’s leather and Alcantara upholstery, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and 9-inch Sensus infotainment system.

As part of the R-Design package, the cabin is also furnished with R-Design sports seats, steering wheel, gear lever and pedals among others.

There are four colours to choose from: Bursting Blue, Fusion Red, Crystal White, and Osmium Grey.

The T5 badge on the boot lid signifies a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo under its bonnet, delivering 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The XC40 T5 will get from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, with fuel consumption rated at 7.7 litres per 100 km.

As in any new Volvos safety is paramount, and apart from airbags scattered around the cabin the XC40 is equipped with an array of active safety features such as Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake, Pilot Assist semi autonomous driving, and the latest generation of City Safety which includes the autonomous collision mitigation and avoidance.
