Ali Baba Group is looking to help reduce traffic in Kuala Lumpur

Ali Baba Group is set to help combat congestion in Kuala Lumpur by setting up a traffic control system using artificial intelligence – the e-commerce giant’s first project of its kind outside of China.

Partnering with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the system will make live traffic predictions and recommendations to improve traffic flow with increased efficiency through data acquired from video footage, public transportation systems and mapping apps.

The “City Brain Project” as it is known is also in partnership with the Kuala Lumpur City Council where the artificial intelligence system will localised and integrated with 500 inner city cameras by May this year.

It is said that there is no guarantee of the City Brain’s impact on traffic in Kuala Lumpur just yet but the system in place in Hangzhou, China had increased traffic efficiency by 15%.
