E-commerce has dramatically changed the way we shop for goods. Be it apparels, kitchenware or even fresh produce, we can now purchase almost anything and everything with a click of a button. Now, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is taking to popular e-commerce site, Lazada, to sell their cars.
In conjunction with Lazada’s Online Revolution Campaign, VPCM will be retailing 12 limited edition Volkswagen Beetles exclusively on Lazada Malaysia’s website. Although this is not the first time a car manufacturer has sold its cars through the online space, it is the first time a manufacturer and an e-commerce company are teaming up to sell cars online.
The limited-edition Beetles come in two distinct designs – “Herbie 53” finished in either Pure White or White Silver and “Hot Bug” available in Tornado Red. Started life as a regular Beetle Design 1.2 TSI, the “Herbie 53” gets the famous red and blue stripes with the 53 number on both doors and hood. The “Hot Bug” gets a dual black stripe design much like a ladybug.
Other than the exterior livery, the limited-edition Beetles soldier on with the same kit – halogen headlamps, 17-inch multi-spoke alloys, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, 5.8-inch Touchscreen ‘Composition Colour’ with USB, Bluetooth and 8 Speakers and ‘Pepita’ fabric upholstery.
Motivation remains unchanged, coming from a 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI and seven-speed dual clutch (DSG) combo that sends 104 hp and 175 Nm of torque to the front wheels. Don’t dismiss its puny powerplant because we found it to be a punchy little car.
The limited-edition Beetles will be available for purchase from 12th to 14th December and retails for an auspicious figure of RM112,112 (OTR without insurance). Like most items sold on Lazada, these Beetles will also net you savings of RM24,776 or 18 per cent as compared to walking into a showroom.
