Launched back in 2015, Isuzu’s ladder frame SUV, the MU-X, remains relevant and competitive in today’s market. However, with competitors creeping close, Isuzu Malaysia decided to up their game.
Introducing the new top of the line variant, the MU-X Type-S with enhanced aesthetics and features on the already well-equipped seven seater SUV. Powertrain choice is the same, one and only 2.5-litre turbodiesel.

With the Type-S package, the MU-X gets a sportier front and rear bumper, keyless entry as well as a shark fin antenna. Elsewhere, the Type-S gets the same exterior styling as its regular siblings. Items like projector headlamps, front fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, chrome power folding side mirrors and chrome door handles are all the same as before. The only way to tell the Type-S apart would be through the Type-S badge at the rear, because it also rides on the same 17-inch rims wrapped in 255/65 profile tyres.
Inside, the changes are more distinct with the new Ivory leather upholstery. Besides that, the instrument cluster is also refreshed, sporting a more sophisticated e-LUMAX advanced Multi-Information Display. Other than the push start button, the rest of the interior dittos the standard model.
There’s an eight-inch infotainment system linked to a six-speaker set up, roof mounted 10-inch rear DVD monitor, three-spoke leather wrapped multi-functional steering wheel, six-way powered front seats for driver, automatic climate control, one touch collapsible second row seats, roof mounted rear air vents with fan speed control and speed sensing auto lock function.
The MUX Type-S remains motivated by a 2.5-litre turbodiesel that pushes out 134 hp and 320 Nm of torque via a five-speed automatic with sequential shift. Power can be sent to either the front wheels or all-four wheels by simply selecting between 2WD High, 4WD High or 4WD Low from the electronic transfer rotary knob located next to the gear leaver.
As with the Isuzu D-Max, the MU-X gets a host of safety features to keep occupants as safe as possible. The Type-S comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD with BA, hill start assist, ESC with traction control, ISOFIX mounting points for the middle row, reverse sensors as well as a reverse camera.
The same four exterior shades are carried over: Cosmic Black, Splash White, Titanium Silver and their flagship Uluru Brown. Every purchase of the MU-X Type-S now comes with an upgraded 5-Year unlimited mileage warranty. Existing owners’ of the MU-X will have their current warranty programme upgraded to this 5-Year warranty package as well.
