BYD Malaysia has teased a covered Sealion 7 on its social media pages, with a reveal slated for 30 July 2026, hinting at an update to the electric SUV since its local market debut back in November 2024.
This comes after the Sealion 7 was discontinued in China as BYD focuses on the plug-in hybrid variant in its domestic market, after the pure electric variant saw only a meagre 100 to 300 units registered in the first half of 2026, CarNewsChina reports.
It is unknown what updates the BYD Sealion 7 will get in Malaysia. Looking at its global counterparts sold in South Africa, the Sealion 7 in that market received the DiSus-C adaptive suspension system as seen on the updated Seal, replacing the existing frequency-selective dampers and shock absorbers on the outgoing model.
The updated Sealion 7 may introduce the 91.3 kWh LFP Blade battery found in European models, which offers a range of 502 km (WLTP). This upgraded battery pack utilises an 800V architecture that supports DC fast charging up to 230 kW, allowing for a 10-80% recharge in just 24 minutes.
Other potential updates could include quality-of-life improvements, such as a powered sunshade for the panoramic sunroof, but we will have to wait until 30 July 2026 to find out for sure.

Currently, the BYD Sealion 7 is available in two variants, priced at RM184,835 for the Premium and RM201,465 for the Performance.
The range starts with a single rear-mounted traction motor making 313 hp (230 kW) and 380 Nm. Meanwhile, the range-topping Performance variant gets a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup delivering 530 hp (390 kW) and 690 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds.
Equipped with an 82.5 kWh battery pack, the BYD Sealion 7 offers an NEDC-rated range of 567 km on the Premium variant and 542 km on the Performance variant. Charging is supported via 11 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 30%-80% recharge in 32 minutes.
