The Proton X50’s cousin, the Geely Coolray, is reportedly slated for a market debut in Indonesia, OtoDriver reports. However, the B-segment SUV’s launch in the archipelago at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) will essentially feature a rebadged version of the previous Proton X50 sold locally.
Reportedly available as a fully imported (CBU) model from Malaysia, the Geely Coolray will mark the brand’s return to internal-combustion-engined (ICE) offerings in Indonesia. This comes after establishing an electrified lineup comprising the Geely Starray EM-i, Geely EX5, and Geely EX2—otherwise known as the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV, eMAS 7, and eMAS 5, respectively.
Although the B-segment SUV is built in Malaysia, several details differentiate it from our pre-facelift X50. The Indonesian model features a front fascia borrowed from the 2021 Geely Binyue facelift with an X-shaped bumper. However, it retains familiar trimmings, such as the sporty rear spoiler derived from the current X50.
At the rear, the quad-exhaust outlets seen on the Binyue facelift have been omitted on the Indonesian-spec Coolray. You will, however, find a ‘GEELY’ wordmark spanning the tailgate in place of the Proton badge.

Inside, the Indonesian-spec Geely Coolray adopts the cabin layout of the latest Proton X50. Highlights include a central 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.88-inch letterbox-style digital instrument cluster, finished with illuminated patterned dashboard trim. The arrangement mirrors the specification sold in South Africa, with other reported interior features including a wireless charging pad and leather upholstery.
Under the bonnet, the Indonesian Coolray shares the current Proton X50’s powertrain: a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending 181 hp and 290 Nm to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This setup delivers a 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds.
