Fresh off the Denza Z9 GT wagon being launched in Malaysia and ready to rip up the asphalt with over 1,000 hp, the premium sub-brand of BYD has now released images of the Denza Z9S, a somewhat sedan variant that will slot in below the wagon but likely have just as ridiculous an amount of power.
The Denza sedan will however roll in with a footprint a little smaller than the elongated wagon. It measures in at 5,090 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a 3,025 mm wheelbase. That means 145 mm shorter in overall length and 100 mm cut from the wheelbase as well.
Design wise, the Z9S possesses more than a striking resemblance to its wagon sibling but might just get a new shade of Dawn Purple, as the official images show. Some of noticeable cosmetic differences are in the shape of the two-tier lighting, with the main headlights positioned lower in the bumper corners.
Despite losing the hatch at the back, the rear keeps the almost full-width taillights. Lastly, the flush door handles from its wagon sibling are binned, a move mostly likely motivated by China’s ban on hidden handles.

For now, filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirms only two rear-wheel drive variants. The base option packs a claimed 435 hp, with a punchier 503 hp variant sitting above it. Both come with a 102.326 kWh battery pack with up to 920 km but measured on the ambitious CLTC cycle.
Additionally, the batteries will be sourced from different sources. The base variant will run a pack assembled with Hefei BYD cells by Shanwei FinDreams Battery, while the higher output variants runs a pack assembled by Shenzhen BYD Auto Industry using Wuwei FinDreams cells.

The very same filings cited by Car News China also discloses a weight of 2,700 kg for the base variants along with a staggered tyre setup of 245/50R19 and 275/45R19.
What about the tri-motor variant you ask? Well, that was not mentioned in the filing but it will almost certainly come about. Reports indicate a combined output of 1,194 hp and a claimed range of 780 km with the CLTC cycle.
