Tesla unveils new 830 km Model 3+ in China, Model 3 Performance also gets a range boost

The highly anticipated Tesla Model 3+ has now launched in China with pricing starting from RMB269,500 (approx. RM158k) before options, boasting over 800 km of driving range, making it the longest-range Tesla you can currently buy in the Middle Kingdom.

slotting between the base rear-wheel drive (RWD) and long-range all-wheel drive (AWD) variants, the Model 3+ is supposedly capable of a range of up to 830 km, based on the more optimistic CLTC test cycle. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 200 km/h.

For comparison, the Model 3+’s range is 196 km more than what the base RWD variant is capable of, and 77 km more than the Long Range AWD variant can achieve.

In classic Tesla fashion, no official powertrain specifications were released. But based on a recent regulatory filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), it’s has been revealed that the Model 3+ features a 78.4 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack, which powers a rear-mounted electric motor producing 306 hp (225 kW).

Alongside the debut of the Model 3+, the top-range Performance variant has also received a minor update, boosting its range to 647 km (CLTC), up from 632 km previously. Prices remain the same at RMB339,500 (approx. RM199k) for the flagship variant.

Powering the top-range Model 3 Performance is a dual-motor AWD drivetrain pushing out 460 hp, which enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 261 km/h.

Tesla Model Y L

The debut of the new Model 3+ and the updated Model 3 Performance is just the latest in a series of rapid updates from Tesla. It comes only a month after the previous update in July 2025, which saw the Model 3 Long Range AWD’s range bumped up to 753 km (CLTC) from 713 km, while the Model Y Long Range AWD’s range was also extended to 750 km (CLTC), up from 719 km previously.

Curiously, the six-seater variant of the Tesla Model Y L the company teased previously was not launched concurrently with its updated siblings. Based on regulatory filing to MIIT, the Model Y L will have a range of 751 km (CLTC) from its 82 kWh NMC battery pack.

The filing also revealed that the Tesla Model Y L will feature a dual-motor powertrain, which has a 193 hp (142 kW) electric motor on the front axle and a 269 hp (198 kW) motor on the rear axle. The combined outputs were not disclosed, but top speed is rated at 201 km/h.

It remains to be seen if these updated Teslas will make their way to other markets globally, outside of China. Currently, the Tesla Model 3 in Malaysia is available in three variants, with prices starting from RM181,000 for the base RWD variant, which offers 520 km of range (WLTP) from its 62.5 kWh battery pack.

The Long Range AWD variant, priced at RM210,000, bumps the range up to 629 km (WLTP). At te top of the range is the Performance variant, coming in at RM242,000 and offers a range of 528 km (WLTP) from its larger 79 kWh battery pack.

For the Model Y, it is sold solely as a five-seater for now, offered in two variants in Malaysia. The RWD model is priced from RM195,450 with a 57.5 kWh battery pack for 455 km (WLTP) of range, while the AWD variant is priced at RM242,450 and manages 533 km (WLTP) from its 75 kWh battery pack.
