Remember the outrageous BYD Yangwang U9 supercar with over 1,000 hp that could even jump on its own? Well, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s recent heroics at the Nurburgring has now inspired BYD to up their game even more, with a new track-focused version boasting over 3,000 hp and aero upgrades to fight for top honours at the Green Hell, according to CarNewsChina.
The publication reports that BYD has filed a new entry with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealing a souped-up BYD Yangwang U9 that’ll pack four electric motors, one at each wheel producing 555 kW (744 hp), for a combined output of 2,220 kW (3,019 hp) and a top speed of 350 km/h.

For comparison, the current production Yangwang U9 only delivers 960 kW (1287 hp) in total. And just to demonstrate how crazy those numbers are, from Europe, notable EV hypercars like the Lotus Evija and Rimac Nevera pack only 1,972 hp and 1,914 hp, respectively. Closer to home, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra packs 1,548 hp from its three motors.
According to the report, the BYD Yangwang U9 “track edition” will be fitted with an 80 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, capable of a CLTC range of 450 km. The car supports up to 500 kW DC fast-charging and can charge from 30% to 80% in about 10 minutes. With everything intact, the car will weigh a whopping 2,630 kg.
The track-focused model is reportedly configured with double wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. With the BYD DiSus-X intelligent body control system, it allows for features such as three-wheel driving and synchronised body movement.

On the outside, the car doesn’t see many changes compared to the regular version. The report says the track-focused U9 will come standard with 20-inch wheels, a carbon-fibre roof, a large fixed carbon-fibre rear wing, and a rear diffuser fitted with adjustable blades for aerodynamics.
In the government filing, the car is also fitted with optional aerodynamic enhancements, such as a larger carbon-fibre front splitter and an active rear wing.
The BYD Yangwang U9 previously lapped the Nürburgring in 7:17.900. According to the report, the company now aims to push the car further and set new records both at the Nürburgring and Germany’s ATP proving ground. That won’t be an easy task, though — the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra currently leads the production EV charts with a 7:04.957 lap, while the previous record holder, Europe’s Rimac Nevera, posted a 7:05.298.
