Hot on the heels of the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), its first fully electric (EV) model, the national carmaker is seemingly not waiting about and will reportedly be launching its next EV very soon. Rumoured to be called the Proton eMAS 5, the upcoming EV has now been confirmed to be based on the Geely Xingyuan.
The news of the next eMAS model was reported by Chinese media, quoting An Conghui, Geely Holding Group President and Geely Auto Group Chairman. He stated that the Geely Xingyuan will be launched in Malaysia this year with the hopes of building on the eMAS 7’s success.

The Xingyuan shares the same underpinnings as the Geely Galaxy E5, sitting on the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA). It’ll pop up in the rear-view mirror of the BYD Dolphin over here. It measures in at 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. For comparisons sake, the Dolphin comes in at 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height with 2,700mm between the front and rear axle.
Power will come from either a 78 hp or 114 hp electric motor. Battery options are between a 30.12 kWh or 40.16 kWh packs, delivering a range of 310 km to 410 km. Top speed is 135 kph.
