Exterior: Premium gets bigger wheels
Both variants are nearly identically equipped on the outside, with standard kit here consisting of LED headlights with automatic high beam and full-width LED tail lights, retracting door handles, automatic wipers, and roof rails on top.
The main difference between the two variants on the outside is their wheels; the Prime gets a set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in GitiControl P10 tyres (225/55), while the Premium has 19-inch wheels (235/40) with a slightly more intricate design and Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance SUV tyres, although both get a two-tone silver-and-black finish.
The Premium also has an additional active grille shutter feature on the small lower air intake to further improve aerodynamics when cooling is not needed, alongside front parking sensors.
Proton eMAS 7 Interior: Premium gets more tech, creature comfort items
Inside, both variants feature a minimalist dashboard design punctuated by two screens, measuring 15.4 inch for the touchscreen infotainment display (2.5K resolution, Proton says), and 10.2-inch for the letterbox-style digital instrument cluster.
A multifunction rotary knob on the centre console can be programmed to adjust the volume, automatic climate control, and several other features, providing a decent physical control option to some of the most-used vehicular functions inside. You’ll also find a wireless smartphone charging pad on the centre console.
While both variants are equipped with a Flyme Audio sound system as standard, the Prime only comes with six speakers, while the Premium has 16, including headrest speakers for the front seats. Speaking of, both variants come with six-way powered front seats, although the Premium adds a memory function for the driver, front seat ventilation, and four-way power adjustability for the front passengers (manual on Prime).
The Premium also adds a head-up display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, panoramic glass roof, as well as a powered tailgate. The 33 storage spaces on the inside – including the storage box under the boot floor and one more under the second row seats – are standard on both variants, while the boot opens up to 461 litres on both variants, expandable to 1,877 litres with the second-row seats folded down.
Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is still not available on both variants at launch.
Proton eMAS 7 performance: Bigger battery, more range on Premium variant
Both the Proton eMAS 7 Prime and Premium variants come with an identical powertrain setup, featuring a single motor on the front axle delivering 218 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, translating to a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds, onward to a top speed of 175 km/h.
The main difference between the two variants in terms of performance is their battery sizes: the entry-level Prime variant is equipped with a 49.5 kWh battery pack, delivering a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the more expensive Premium variant gets a larger 60.2 kWh pack, enough to give it a driving range of 410 km fully charged. Both are using Geely’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology Aegis Short Blade Battery technology.
To charge, both variants come with an on-board 11 kW AC charger, translating to a charging time of 4.9 hours on the Prime, and 6.1 hours on the Premium to go from 30-80%. DC charging varies according to variants at 80 kW on the Prime and 100 kW on the Premium, but due to their difference in battery size, both variants take roughly 20 minutes to go from 30-80%.
Advanced safety: standard equipment on both variants
Both variants of the Proton eMAS 7 comes as standard with a full kit of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which includes features such as autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert and braking support, adaptive cruise control with stop-go functionality, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign identification.
Six airbags are also included as standard across both variants, as is the 360-degree surround-view monitor.
