The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has just made its debut. As expected, its exterior has been completely revamped, featuring an ID-like styling.
Volkswagen describes the third-generation Tiguan’s front-end design as “powerful” looking, featuring the “very flat” IQ Light HD matrix headlights that have been derived from the Touareg, its bigger sibling. Also included here is the glass-covered horizontal strip.

Its radiator grille openings are now located at the outer sides of the bumper which features air curtains to ensure optimum air routing. As a whole, the third-gen Volkswagen Tiguan’s new front-end design has helped the car achieve a drag coefficient of 0.28, compared to its predecessor’s 0.33 Cd. Round the back, the ID-design influence continues with the LED tail lights that span across the width of the car.
Underpinning the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan is the carmaker’s latest Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB Evo) platform. Thanks to the platform, the Tiguan is offered with various types of powertrains to fit the needs of the different markets the brand serves.

Among the platforms available are turbo diesel engines (TDI), turbo petrol engines (TSI), mild hybrid turbo gasoline engines (eTSI), as well as plug-in hybrid (PHEV) systems (eHybrid). All powertrains will be paired with the carmaker’s DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
No further details have been shared regarding the all-new Tiguan’s various powertrains just yet, but it is known that the eHybrid variant’s electric range has been increased up to 100 km, as compared to its predecessors. While AC charging will continue to be made available for all eHybrid variants, DC charging has been included as standard this time around.

Just like the brand’s all-electric ID models, as well as the new Passat sedan, gone is the traditional gear selector which has been replaced by a steering column switch instead. The all-new Tiguan is also equipped with paddle shifters across the range.
The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan has been fitted with the carmaker’s adaptive chassis control system known as the DCC. Optionally, customers can also opt for the DCC Pro system which features two valve shock absorbers for greater comfort and agility.
Volkswagen Technical Development Board Member, Kai Grünitz said, “The latest evolutionary stage of the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB Evo) forms the highly innovative technical basis of the third generation of the Tiguan. Thanks to the large economies of scale of the MQB Evo, Volkswagen is once again democratizing numerous high-tech developments such as the DCC Pro or the new hybrid drives with an electric range of around 100 km and making them available to hundreds of thousands of drivers.”

Inside, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan’s interior has also gone through a complete redesign. It now features Volkswagen’s new Digital Cockpit which comes with anti-reflective coating in tablet landscape format and is based on the brand’s fourth-generation modular infotainment matrix – the MIB4.
The Tiguan is also fitted with a 15-inch infotainment screen which sports an entirely new menu structure and graphics, alongside a head-up display which is projected onto the windscreen. Included here is also a new multifunction driving experience switch that comes with an integrated OLED display. This rotary control is designed with its own mini screen that can help control the driving profile, radio volume, or background lighting colours.

Speaking of driving profiles, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with the brand’s vehicle dynamics manager, which first made its debut on the latest Golf GTI. The system controls the functions of the electronic differential locks and lateral dynamics components of the controlled shock absorbers in the DCC Pro system.
There are also wheel-specific braking interventions and selective changes in the shock absorber hardness which aids in delivering greater comfort and enhanced performance. For better comfort, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with the ErgoActive Plus front seats that feature pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment and a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure massage function.

For better convenience, there is also a programming function to automatically activate the seat’s ventilation function during higher temperatures, for instance. Thanks to the all-new Tiguan being 3cm longer than its predecessor, it now features 652 litres of boot space, which is 37 litres more than before.
Safety-wise, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan features a series of safety features such as side Assist (lane change system), front assist (autonomous emergency braking), and lane assist (lane keeping system). Optionally, customers can opt for additional safety features such as park assist pro with remote parking capability, as well as the trailer assist feature for assisted manoeuvring with a trailer.

The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan will be made available in Germany from Q1 2024 onwards. Closer to home, the Volkswagen Tiguan is offered only as the 7-seater Tiguan Allspace. A total of three variants are available, namely Life, Elegance, and R-Line. Prices for the car start from RM174,590 and top off at RM257,073, with the Volkswagen Assurance Package included.
