It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve now finally received confirmation that the highly-awaited all-new 2022 Honda Civic Type R will make its official debut on the 21st of July, or just about nine days from now. Save the date, JDM fanboys.
Although, of course, the all-new Civic Type R is unlikely to be anything too surprising now, given that we’ve pretty much seen it (fully camouflaged, mind) from every conceivable angle possible.
It’ll also follow the same basic formula that made the Civic Type R so successful over all these years, which means front-wheel drive, a six-speed manual, and an engine that has just enough power to be fun, but not anywhere near enough to make you wet your pants.
That being said, the upcoming 2022 Honda Civic Type R did actually already break a record, specifically the FWD track record at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. So while it’s not a Mercedes-AMG A 45 S competitor, it’s definitely no slouch either.
Word on the street is that the all-new Civic Type R will be powered by an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four from the current-gen FK8 model, which has 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque. That should mean a 0-100 km/h sprint time of under six seconds, onward to a top speed of over 270 km/h.
As for looks, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Type R will again be based off of the latest-generation Civic hatchback. As usual, expect additional aerodynamic appendages and sportier design touches around the bumpers, and based on the first non-camouflaged teaser image provided by Honda, the Type R will also get a honeycomb mesh grille cover up front, as well as the usual Type R and red Honda emblem badgings on the exterior.
