Video: Volvo S60 T8 PHEV R-Design Review

It’s good to be back with our review videos and we kick off the post MCO life with this – the recent talk of the town – the S60 T8 PHEV R-Design. Since we had the car, Volvo Car Malaysia has gone on to introduce a locally-assembled equivalent at the same RM296k price tag.

It’s by far the most powerful S60 Volvo has ever built thus far; with the T8 variant churning out a whopping total of 407 hp and 604 Nm from it’s 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine which powers the front wheels while an electric motor powering the rear two.

It may not offer the same excitement that a supercar of equivalent power would, but as you’d see in the video, it’s got quite a bit of poke for a 2-tonne machine. In fact, square the S60 up with the likes of BMW’s M2 Competition or Toyota’s Supra and it could just spring a surprise!

In the video we also discussed what the S60 T8 is like compared to the BMW’s 3 series and Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class in terms of its aesthetics, “wow factor” and driving feel. We also discussed whether customers who can afford to pay RM300k for a car would prefer an SUV, like the Mercedes-Benz GLC or the BMW X3, and if sedans in this segment and price point are still relevant.

When you’re done, have a look at this comparison between the Mercedes-Benz C300, BMW 330i against the S60 T8 for more perspectives!
