It’s been three years since the legendary Ford GT ended production in 2022. While signs of a new generation have been scarce, recent statements from Ford Racing Global Director, Mark Rushbrook, suggest that a comeback for the iconic hypercar may become a reality.
During the Ford Racing division’s rebranding announcement, Ford revealed that the team is preparing “an all-new Ford Racing production road car.” Scheduled to debut early next year at the annual Ford Racing Season Launch in Detroit, the new model promises to deliver performance honed specifically for the track.
Ford says the developments will “accelerate innovation, ultimately making our cars and trucks better for our customers”, hinting that the upcoming “Ford Racing production road car” could feature some seriously advanced motorsport technology, particularly from Formula 1.
That is in part due to Ford’s involvement with Red Bull Racing, which will mark the Blue Oval’s return to Formula 1 in 2026 – 22 years after the brand left the sport.

If this new model is indeed a Ford GT, it would represent only the third generation of the road-going hypercar in almost thirty years, following the first generation in 2005 and the second in 2017.
Apart from the Ford GT, speculation points to an even more aggressive version of the Ford Mustang GTD, especially after the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X recently claimed the title of the fastest American car around the Nürburgring. The Ford Focus ST is another possibility, though it has been unfortunately discontinued for good.
