No toll fee hikes in 2025 – Government to absorb RM500 million in compensation

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that toll fees will not be increased in 2025, in his nationwide “rakyat appreciation” address today.

While 10 highways were initially set to revise their toll fees this year as part of their concession agreement, the government has agreed to foot the bill of more than RM500 million in order to maintain the toll fees at their current level, the Prime Minister announced today.

Among the highways involved include the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE), East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Butterworth Outer Ring Road (LLB/BORR), and the Maju Expressway (MEX) connecting Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The government has previously deferred the toll fee hike at three highways nationwide in 2021, which was estimated to cost the government RM2.25 billion in compensation.

During the televised address today, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also announced that pricing for RON95 petrol will be reduced to RM1.99 per litre as part of the upcoming petrol subsidy rationalisation plan. The full mechanism of the RON95 subsidy rationalisation will be announced by the end of September 2025.
