BMW has just shown us the next generation iDrive System dubbed the “BMW Panoramic iDrive” at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show and promises that it will be making its way in Chinese BMW vehicles as early as mid-2026.
The BMW Neue Klasse EVs have been all the rage these days with promises of impressive power and range figures unlike any other. As the exterior of the car has been revealed a while ago, we now get a better picture of what future generations of Neue Klasse vehicles will look like on the inside as well.
The BMW Panoramic iDrive display works by having its contents displayed across the entire width of the windscreen. Take it as a heads up display but far more advanced.
This new iDrive display will be running on a newly developed operating system that BMW calls “Operating System X”. BMW was also happy to announce that 70% of the operating system for China consisted of locally developed software and source codes.

Following up with that, BMW has also introduced the AI-based BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant that has an exclusive language model developed in conjunction with Alibaba. With more time, the system will be further improved upon with the help of “AI Reasoning by Deepseek”.
BMW says that the new system will be making its way into their vehicles as early as mid-2026 in China following the launch of the Neue Klasse electric vehicles. BMW hasn’t mentioned if the rest of the world will get this system but we assume it’ll trickle to other markets not long after anyways.

With interior layouts getting more and more similar year after year, this innovation from BMW is most certainly a breath of fresh air regardless if you are a fan or not.
Personally, we think it’s really cool as it is going to be as close as we can get to the heads up display in the BMW i8 concept that we saw in Mission Impossible 4 back in 2014.
