Heads up Malaysians! If you’re hitting the road this Chinese New Year, take note: the Ministry of Works (KKM) has announced a temporary speed limit reduction on federal roads to keep things safe during the festive rush.
From January 28th to February 2nd, 2025, the speed limit on all federal roads will be reduced from 90 km/h to 80 km/h. So, plan your journey accordingly and take it easy.
To help keep traffic flowing smoothly, all non-critical roadworks will be put on hold. This includes the lane widening works on the North-South Expressway near Sedenak and Kulai, which will be paused from January 23rd to February 3rd, 2025.
Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, in a statement, reminded all Malaysians to be fully prepared before their journey. This includes:
- Making sure you’re well-rested to avoid fatigue and drowsiness while driving.
- Ensuring your debit card, RFID, and Touch N Go card have sufficient balance to avoid delays at toll plazas.
- Checking your vehicle’s condition, including the tyres, to ensure it’s ready for a long journey.
So, remember to drive carefully, be considerate of other road users, and have a happy and safe Chinese New Year!
