Forgoing the top-tier models, we opted for the entry-level variants of the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3. Both electric sedans offer compelling propositions at their respective price points.
The Tesla Model 3 RWD variant comes with a price tag of RM189,000 on the road, without insurance. It comes with a total output of 321 hp (metric) and is a rear-mounted single-motor setup that enables the EV sedan to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, and travel as far as 513 km on a single charge. The Tesla Model 3 RWD can handle up to 170 kW of DC charging, which can provide the Model 3 RWD with a 282 km range with just 15 minutes of charge.
The BYD Seal Premium comes with a price tag of RM179,800 on the road, without insurance. It comes with a 82.5 kWh LFP battery with a 570 km WLTP range. Powering the BYD Seal Premium in Malaysia is a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup. This results in a total output of 313 hp and 360 Nm and allows for a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds. The BYD Seal Premium can handle 150 kW of DC charging, charging the car from 10% to 80% in 37 minutes.
